Revisit keywords and the message that you want to get out to clients
Did you change your business model at all over the course of 2017? Did you get new products or services that you"re adding to your business? Did your competitors change and you need to make some changes also? No matter what the case is, it is vital that you revisit your messaging strategy to ensure that the keywords that you"ve targeted it still make sense for your business and you are missing any opportunities.
An example would be a few years ago one of my clients in the plumbing industry Decided to start focusing more on drain cleaning versus General plumbing services, but they forgot to inform me about the change. Why was this a huge mistake? Well, we had been planning our keyword strategy around General plumbing services not drain cleaning so their call volume dropped down dramatically, as soon as we learned of the change and started implementing SEO strategies to match their new goals the phone started to ring again.
it"s a good idea to revisit your keyword and long tail keyword choices along with your content at least twice per year. if you have made changes in the direction of your company then we need to revisit your existing content and make sure it"s focused towards those changes.
It"s time to perform a full site audit
Since it"s the start of this new year, it"s a great time to do a site audit. Let"s create a keyword roadmap and a full content audit. This is the best way to make sure you understand your site and the message that you were trying to get across to your potential client. Match up your audit with your new business goals make sure they are still working together. it"s always a good idea to perform an audit about once every quarter, but at the start of the year, you really want to go through your site with a fine-tooth comb. Start this year off right and evaluate everything from technical problems to what your competitors are doing and your content.
Repurpose your old content
Look we spend a lot of time trying to come up with new ideas for content and quite frankly, it"s hard work. Plus if you follow the step above you just completed a website audit including your content (right?), so you know what content is working, what content isn"t working and what types of new content that you need to create. Don"t just forget about old content, this year spend some time looking at your old content and figure out what you can do to freshen it up.
You might already have some really cool assets such as ebooks, infographics, and videos that you have forgotten about and are not necessarily relevant anymore. now is the time to look at these assets and see how you can utilize them for 2018. The good example would be to take an ebook and turn it into a series of blog posts, infographics can become great social content, and old content could be republished with a couple new sentences and keywords that match your new goals.
